Earlier this month, the Madison City Council unanimously approved plans for a new mixed-use development on the 500 block of State Street, called “the Hub.” The vote will allow Core Campus LLC to develop a 12-story building including 22,000 square feet of commercial space, 329 apartment units and a rooftop swimming pool. The new development will displace several existing businesses, like University Inn, Kabul and Buraka. According to the current timeline, construction will begin in January 2014, with students moving in August 2015. While the development has won approval from City Council, not all community members are thrilled with the plan.
