Kappa Alpha Theta sorority will host its fourth annual Theta Threads denim sale today which will benefit its national philanthropy partner, Court Appointed Special Advocates.
The event sponsored by Charity Denim, an organization that offers discount designed jeans for charitable sale, will run from 1 to 7 p.m. in the living room of the Theta house where the girls will sell various types of designer jeans.
In previous years, the denim sale featured True Religion and Seven for All Mankind denim brands, but this year will be the first sale to include boutique-clothing items from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters.
According to Theta President Jessica Bender, CASA is a non-profit organization devoted to having volunteer mentors work with children going through the court system as they try to find stable foster families.
Bender said she is excited about the event and the prospect of raising money for such a noteworthy cause.
“I really like that it is an open event and anyone on campus can come,” Bender said. “And it raises a ton of money for our philanthropy CASA… so it’s just a really great way to raise money and get our name out there and have fun.”
Theta Vice President of Public Relations Lindsay Bembenek said CASA holds a particular significance with UW’s Theta sorority not only because it is Theta’s national philanthropy partner, but also because it helped establish a Madison branch of CASA.
According to Bembenek, this year’s event was dedicated to reaching out to the whole UW community as well as Theta alumni and local middle and high school students.
“We’re very lucky because we have a number of girls from Theta who are from the Madison area who volunteered to kind of go out into the community to advertise about out events,” Bembenek said.
Theta hopes to raise $1,000 from the denim sale and will put on another charitable next fall called Katch A Ball, which is an inter-fraternity baseball game to raise money for CASA.
