Firefighters responded to a small fire at Memorial Union at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said the fire was isolated to the attic. MFD spokesperson Joel Kneifel said the fire had been extinguished by 4:00 p.m. and investigators were now looking into the cause.
The fire prompted an evacuation of the building, according to UW spokesperson John Lucas. He said the fire may have been the result of welding or other construction related activities.
