With episode four, we see the
dominoes begin to topple as relationship after shallow relationship begins to
crumble. One. After. The. Next. And that would make sense, since this episode
appears to show more bitchy schemes than ever before. From Serena and Dan
playing CSI: Williamsburg to Nate
checking up on his girl Juliet on the Gossip Girl site, these scandalous Upper
East Siders are once again up to no good.
Blair and Serena make a deal that
Blair will avoid everything involving Chuck anywhere in the city, and that
Serena will not pry into the lives of her Princes Charming on Gossip Girl.
(Note the plural.) Let’s see how long that could last.
Meanwhile, the new St. Charles
Bass is planning to drop $5 million-you know, just some pocket change-on a
charity that he has yet to decide. He plans to present this news at a gala
hosted by Bass himself at the Empire. And yeah, this is all out of the goodness
of his heart. The transformation has been shocking.
It takes Serena a day spent with
Dan to realize she wants to choose him over Nate, but Vanessa-to-the-rescue
prevents a problem in its infancy. No pun intended… (She does this by
appealing to Dan’s emotions over losing the infant child that wasn’t even his
in the first place.) And let’s be honest: we all want to see Dan with Vanessa,
anyway.
The rest of the episode continues
with the usual suspects up to their antics. Blair discovers that Eva was a
prostitute living in the Red Light District of Prague at the time she rescued
Chuck from his muggers. Chuck decides to write the donation in Eva’s name so
she can donate it to the charity of her choice. Obviously, Blair is disgusted
by this and gains revenge in a way that surprises nobody; attempting to
sabotage Chuck’s too-good-to-be-true relationship. And how unnecessary was
Nate’s breakup with Juliet over her “brother” Ben?
Before Eva has a chance to find
out Blair’s evil plan, she’s packing her bags and jetting off back to Europe.
Not even an apology from Chuck can stop her. Chuck approaches Blair and
acknowledges that the first few shots have already been fired. “This is war,”
he says so dramatically that it makes us question whether this is a CW drama or
a daytime soap. But what’s the difference, anyway?
Not a lot was left up in the air
at the finale of the fourth segment of this season’s Upper East Side
adventures, but I do have my own ideas of what I’d like to see happen. Rid the
island of Serena, Blair, and Juliet, and leave the rest alone.
