Best Alone-Time Library: Memorial Library

[media-credit name=’BEN CLASSON/Herald photo’ align=’alignnone’ width=’648′]Memorial-Library-003-BC[/media-credit]"What do you mean, my official Ghostwriter Club membership card is not an acceptable form of identification?" There, standing at the shallow gate that stood between me and my Student Choice Award-blurb destiny, I realized I wasn't in College Library anymore. Luckily, the librarian was temporarily stunned by the dazzle of Sheldon Turnipseed's bright, literacy-loving smile, and I passed calmly into Memorial Library. Immediately upon entrance, those who haven't ventured far from the arms of Helen C. White are surprised by the tasteful blues and grays and lack of a florescent haze coming from all corners. A study area past the circulation counters has side-door (and ID-free!) access until 5 p.m., and the adjacent Infolab now offers three-day laptop checkout. The entryway staircase brings you to a second-floor computer and study area, complete with swanky desk lamps you can use to pretend your Cosmo is a treatise on contemporary bourgeois feminine sensibilities. Adjacent is the card catalog, a great place to sink into a leather chair and an 800-page novel. Around the corner, you'll find the Michael B. Petrovich Reading Room, with large tables to sprawl out your stacks of unopened books. And of course there's always the stacks' "cages." With nothing but a desk and an old service elevator door, finding something to distract you from work can be difficult. However, an anonymous library insider informed me that the cage behind the HQ section of third-floor North Stacks can provide several seconds an hour of entertainment when someone peeks at the sex books. Now that's my kind of library. Memorial Library: 946 votes Steenbock Library: 294 votes
