It’s been a rough week for CNN.
In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, news outlets were all vying to be the first ones to report about potential suspects or, better yet, arrests. However, CNN may have been a bit overeager.
On Wednesday, CNN’s John King first reported that an arrest had been made, citing multiple sources. However, within minutes of making the report, it became clear CNN may have jumped the gun. Soon thereafter, other news organizations, led by NBC’s Pete Williams, were reporting that, in fact, no arrests had been made.
Eventually, CNN walked back their report, but not before it was widely lampooned on social media. Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart, in particular, had fun at their expense.
