This week, North Korea continued its aggressive posturing, moving several medium-range missiles to their east coast. This week has been saturated by a seemingly unending stream of stories about Kim Jung Un claiming his country is closer and closer to attacking the U.S. or its allies – possibly with nuclear weapons.
Unfortunately, North Korea must be taken seriously. According to NBC News, U.S. defense officials are “highly confident” that North Korea is planning to launch a missile in the near future. If they did launch a missile at the U.S. or one of its allies, it would begin a long chain of events, none of them pleasant.
For the time being, we can take solace in Kim Jong Un’s comical blustering, saying each day that they are a little bit closer to launching a missile. One can almost imagine Kim Jong Un as Zeno, counting down to a missile launch in, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ?, ?, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 …”
