The Wisconsin Alumni Student Board is looking for at least three new members to join and fulfill the quota of 65 students, as three previous members had to leave due to graduation.
The organization’s main goal is to bring together current students and alumni through a series of activities throughout the academic years.
Joining WASB requires an input of time, energy and participation in one of the four organizational committees, according to Membership Drive Co-Chair Katie Kucinski.
“We have a developmental team that fosters relationships through membership drives and the Badger Buddy program; an alumni team that is in charge of Dinners On Wisconsin; an All-Campus Party team and a Community Outreach team that hosts events like the Children’s Extravaganza,” Kucinski said.
WASB members are also in charge of planning and hosting events such as Prospective Scholars’ Day, a leadership training program for current UW-Madison students and local area prospective students. Other events include Homecoming participation, Family Weekend and Experience Milwaukee.
Kucinski added there are a variety of events and the organization is for every major.
“If you’re a marketing major, we have ACT marketing,” Kucinski said. “If you’re engineering, we have floats for the Homecoming parade.”
Members are expected to devote a minimum of one hour per week to the organization, and each member gets to pick which committee he or she wants to be a part of.
All members are either in charge of an event or co-chair one, Kucinski said.
The organization has many networking benefits. One of the events, Community Plunge, allows UW students to volunteer or work on various projects in the community. But WASB’s networking opportunities are not only limited to local areas.
“We are trying to initiate a new program called Worldwide Connections that lets students who want to study abroad or whatever get contacts in other countries,” Kucinski said.
According to Membership Drive Co-chair Tirrell Chester, members are very involved in campus life.
“All of the members are really motivated undergrads, and being surrounded by people like you motivates you more,” Chester said.
Applications are due Nov. 26. More information is available on WASB’s website at www.uwalumni.com/wasb.
