Executive Committee of the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County held a conference Tuesday to discuss the potential ways to transfer funds from the 2017 Dane County budget to the University of Wisconsin System.
Resolution 261 would authorize the director of Public Health—Madison to sign an agreement with the Board of Regents in which the funds from Dane County’s 2017 budget would provide short-term support for UW’s insurance enrollment assistance program.
The resolution would provide $107,148 in funds for Covering Wisconsin, an insurance connector for residents, for activities taking place between Nov. 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018.
CWI helps residents obtain access to insurance coverage and other health related programs. Without the necessary funds CWI would have to reduce its services and service area.

The city resolution to amend the budget has already passed. Administrative Assistant Pamela Abel said regardless of the amendment the county resolution has yet to meet it’s final verdict.
“The Executive Committee is designed to take action on behalf of the Board in time sensitive situations,” Abel said.

Abel said the Personnel and Finance Committee has to wait for decisions from other committees before they can make a final decision.
The board is waiting for the other committee’s input, which will be received by Wednesday, Abel said.
The final decision will be discussed at the County Board meeting on Thursday.
