University of Wisconsin females flocked to an undisclosed location this week for a chance to appear in Playboy's May 2006 issue, "Girls of the Top 10 Party Schools."
Searching for the best figures on campus, Playboy officials and photographers are asking UW's female students to come out and "interview" for the latest installment of their semi-annual college issues.
Representatives began the tryouts on Monday and expect nearly 60 girls to interview. They will decide upon the featured females by at least Thursday to complete shooting for the issue this weekend.
And while some girls might shy away from the opportunity, many ambitious UW students already have their hopes up to appear in the issue.
"I've always wanted to be in Playboy," UW sophomore and Chancellor's Scholar Amy Wenger said in an interview with the Badger Herald Tuesday. "They're amazing, they always shoot such beautiful photos and they're always true to women … and they have great articles."
After finding out about the opportunity through the Facebook, Wenger, a subscriber to the magazine since she was 18 years old, said she quickly called representatives to set up an appointment. She even brought her boyfriend, who had to wait downstairs, along to the interview.
"I think he's rooting for it a little more than … well, he couldn't be rooting for it more than I am," she said. "I have his whole frat behind me on this one."
While Wenger's parents might not be so approving, she said they will most likely support her decision if she makes the cut.
"I haven't told them yet because I would like to make it a surprise if I do get in," she said, "but I'm sure they would be more than happy for me if this is what I wanted to do."
And there's no reason why she shouldn't, producer of the UW Playboy shoot Cynthia Kaye said, because appearing in Playboy is the ultimate opportunity for women such as Wenger to be a "glamour queen for a day."
"We absolutely make women the most beautiful they could possibly look," she said. "They know they're going to look beautiful in the magazine … there's no reason why anybody would feel uncomfortable about being nude or posing for Playboy."
Feeling exceptionally comfortable after already completing her test Polaroids, Wenger said if she makes it, students recognizing her on campus from the magazine are definitely the least of her worries.
"More the power to them if they do," she said. "I don't think I'd mind at all. I mean, it's not what I'm shooting for, but if its one of the things that comes with being in Playboy, I'll take it."
Apparently, many other UW females are also willing to take it, as being a model once in the magazine can, for some, provide a lifetime supply of swank, Kaye said.
"Once you're a Playboy model, you're always a Playboy model," she said. "And you know you can do one of these college pictorials and forever be a Playboy model."
Wenger added after appearing in Playboy magazine, the UW models can send their pictures in and be approved to attend a party at the Playboy mansion.
To interview for Playboy's "Girls of the Top 10 Party Schools," full-time and part-time UW females are encouraged to call (312) 401-7341.
