A 21-year-old University of Wisconsin student was taken to a Madison hospital early Sunday morning after sustaining serious life-threatening injuries from a hit-and-run accident.
Madison resident Timothy Madson, 24, struck pedestrian Joseph Pawasarat around 2:29 a.m. Sunday on the corner of West Johnson and Broom Street. Madson did not stop his car at the time of the accident, but called police later and turned himself in.
Madson is currently in Dane County Jail and will likely be charged with Failure to Render Aid, which is a felony charge.
“There was alcohol in the person’s system when he was arrested, but it was not above the legal limit,” said Madison Police Sgt. Dave McClurg.
McClurg said Pawasarat, who lives on West Mifflin Street, suffered from bleeding in his brain, injuries to his kidneys and broken bones.
Madson also was wanted on more than one outstanding warrant, McClurg said.
