Playboy photographers will be traveling to the University of Wisconsin campus Monday and Tuesday scouting out coeds for the “Women of the Big 10” feature in the annual college-women pictorial.
The feature is scheduled to run in Playboy’s October 2003 issue, set for newsstands Monday, Aug. 25.
Playboy spokesperson Karen Ring Borgstrom said many of Playboy’s readers are of college age and that every year many requests come in for the college issue.
“For the past 26 years, college pictorials have been one of the most talked-about and popular features in Playboy,” reads a recent Playboy release. “Thousands of coeds have auditioned over the years, and many selected to appear in the magazine have gone on to become Playboy Playmates, models and actresses.”
Every year, a different conference is featured in the issue. The last time the Big Ten was the conference highlighted was in the October 1997 issue.
In order to “audition” for a spot in the magazine, candidates must be at least 18 years old and enrolled as full- or part-time students at the Big Ten university they are interviewing at. A registration card of some sort, such as a school ID, must be presented as proof of enrollment.
In addition, for a candidate to be considered for the pictorial and have an interview time set up, a recent full-figure photo in a two-piece swimsuit as well as a head-and-shoulders photograph must be sent to [email protected].
Along with the photographs, each candidate should send a brief statement about herself, including information such as her year in school, course of studies, sport and/or activity participation, date of birth, height, weight and measurements.
Candidates will be telephoned prior to their interview revealing the location of the shoot.
Borgstrom said interviews will last approximately 15 to 30 minutes and will cover areas such as the interviewee’s course of studies and ambitions.
“It is all very relaxed and fun,” Borgstrom said, adding that anywhere from 50 to 200 girls have shown up per shoot in the past. “Every girl should come out.”
However, Borgstrom also noted changes in turnout thus far in the colleges visited, such as the University of Michigan, University of Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue University, Indiana University, University of Iowa and Ohio State University.
“There is so much going on in the world that there hasn’t been as much of a turnout,” Borgstrom said. “The turnout is not as great as usual.”
After stopping in Madison, the three-person Playboy Crew will continue its venture to Penn State and the University of Minnesota before completing its Big Ten tour at Northwestern University.
