Dave Cieslewicz
Environmentalist and efficient-land-use advocate Dave Cieslewicz supports commuter rail as well as the mid-State Street parking ramp to curb traffic congestion downtown. He supports mandatory inclusionary zoning to force developers to include affordable housing in all new projects; Soglin supports voluntary zoning. Cieslewicz would also uphold landlord-tenant laws.
Paul Soglin
Former mayor Paul Soglin wants to build more student housing on university property to decrease rent prices. He said he would also work to enforce building-code inspections of student properties neglected by landlords. He would rather improve the bus system than pursue commuter rail, and he supports additional parking ramps to ease the parking shortage.
Jeff Erlanger
Erlanger’s No. 1 priority is preventing State Street from becoming overrun by chain stores, and he also wants to build more student housing to lower rent prices.
Austin King
King wants to raise the minimum wage, protect student security deposits and build another dorm on campus.
Jason Stephany
Stephany wants to raise the minimum wage and provide more alternatives to drinking. He has not taken a stance on voluntary versus mandatory inclusionary zoning.
Robbie Webber
Webber wants to increase the use of public transit through commuter rail, and she supports mandatory inclusionary zoning so all new housing would contain affordable units.
