Paper editors grilled on election turnout, alcohol consumption

http://http://vimeo.com/7429721

Ald. Thuy Pham-Remmele, District 20, asks questions of Badger Herald managing editor Kevin Bargnes and Daily Cardinal editor in chief Charles Brace. Her questions drew the most audible reaction from members of the audience and council. (2:17) Both of you believe the students selected really represent the entire student body? (3:00) Bargnes says while some students are apathetic, many are passionate. Brace explains how students care about what affects them, even if they don’t all know the details of internal city politics. (3:50) Pham-Remmele asks Bargnes and Brace if they drink. Mayor Cieslewicz says he’s not sure what the relevance of the question is. (5:15) Pham-Remmele asks about students leaving upon graduation. (6:15) Bargnes explains how students can make a difference while they are here, and Pham-Remmele tells him not to digress, to much laughter of the other alders. (7:30) The alder asks the students to summarize succinctly the “Madison Density Plan,” raising an objection from another alder about pertinence.
