Less than two weeks from announcing his intentions to forgoe his senior season and entry the NFL draft, Jack Ikegwuonu suffered a major roadblock Tuesday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is [reporting](http://blogs.jsonline.com/badgers/archive/2008/01/24/ikegwuono-blow-out-knee-won-t-play-in-08.aspx) that while working out in Florida in preparation for the upcoming combine, Ikegwuonu tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and his medical collateral ligament (MCL) as well as suffering damage to his kneecap.
Ikegwuonu will now go under reconstructive knee surgery and will be out for the entire 2008 season. The injury all but assures he won’t be drafted in this year’s draft. The injury also means his draft stock in 2009, after he recovers from his injuries, will also plummet. Most scouts were projecting Ikegwuonu as a second or third round pick this year and now next year teams will be less likely to take a chance on a player who hasn’t played football in a year and is coming off major surgery to his knee. My guess is that Ikegwuonu will likely be a sixth or seventh round pick in 2009 if he is even drafted at all.
