Last December, The Badger Herald premiered a new international playlist full of songs from countries on all corners of the world, and the result was an international dance party of epic proportions (well, we think so).
This international playlist is even more diverse and showcases languages including Korean, Tamil, Russian and Xhosa, and musical styles that are undiscovered by many. One song to look out for is the Polish song, “Brać,” in which sultry-voiced Cleo sings in Polish accompanied by Ukrainian rapper Enej in a sort of anthem for Slavic brotherhood. Even if you can’t understand the lyrics it’s still great.
Another amazing song is “Medayil Aadidum,” a Bollywood-style song sung in Tamil, one of the countries many languages. The lush strings and beautiful vocals create for a pleasant and harmonious track.
In addition, don’t forget “Click Song,” sung by the highly revered “Mama Africa,” otherwise known as Miriam Makeba. The song is sung in Xhosa, a language indigenous to South Africa. You’ll hear what sounds like someone tapping a wooden instrument, but those clicks are actually sung by the singer and are all part of the Xhosa language.
Overall, this playlist celebrates the variety of language and music that exists on earth and no song is the same as another. Enjoy this cornucopia of rich songs and broaden your musical horizon.
