UW-Madison will continue using security measures similar to those installed at Camp Randall for home football games at the Kohl Center and the Field House this weekend as the hockey season gets under way.
These security measures, which include security checks and limitations on carry-in items, will also be applied to volleyball and basketball games this season.
“We’re confident that our hockey, basketball and volleyball fans will be as patient and cooperative about these safety measures as the football fans have been,” said UW Police Capt. Dale Burke. “Maintaining a safe environment at these sporting events is in the best interest of everyone attending.”
The new security measures were put in place after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Police advise fans to arrive early and keep backpacks, coolers, thermoses, bottles, cans, bags, banners, flags and food items at home. Purses, fanny packs, seat cushions or similar items will be subject to security checks at the gates, UW said.
The men’s hockey team will host Wayne State Friday and Saturday nights at 7:05 p.m., and the women’s hockey team will host Connecticut Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 2:35 p.m.
