Madison has declared a snow emergency, and all cars parked on the even-house-numbered side of the street last night were ticketed $20.
All cars not parked on the odd-numbered side of the street tomorrow night downtown will also be fined $20.
The tickets are issued so that snowplows can cover both sides of the street before the snow gets packed to the ground.
Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, predicted hundreds of people will get tickets during the course of the two nights.
“The city makes thousands of dollars off of $20 tickets,” he said. “Every year, students get hit hard by snow emergencies.”
Students can park in ramps for free tonight until 7 a.m. due to the emergency but must pay for any additional time in the ramp after 8 a.m.
A snow emergency is declared when more than three inches of snow falls in a day.
