The primary elections are not reserved for just long-term state residents but also those who have a vested interest in the state.

The next governor will be looking at the state budget and the possibility of tuition increases and financial aid, as well as other key issues.

Wisconsin voters only need to live in their district for 10 days before the election and can register by bringing proof of residency to the polls. Madison residents can bring their driver’s license or other state-issued identifications cards to the polls.

Students who are not permanent residents can bring their apartment leases, a university identification card, utility bill or any commercial document showing a current name or address.

Student districts including four, five and eight each have several locations where voters can register.
Those who don’t know where to vote can call the city clerk’s office at 266-4601 or visit the city’s website at www.ci.madison.wi.us.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
