The Allen Centennial Gardens hosted the Honey Harvest Celebration to honor the hard work of their bees this past summer. Lead by two student sustainability interns, a beehive was raised this spring and the fruits of the bees (and interns) labors were shared with community members, students and families Sunday afternoon.
At the event, there was plenty of fresh honey to sample, local honey products to purchase and pipe cleaner antennae headbands available for crafting. The celebration had real bees under a microscope ready for viewing as well as a “Bee Bomb” station to get your hands dirty to make something that the pollinators of Wisconsin would love.
A few other flying friends made appearances too, such as the Great Black Wasp, the Monarch Butterfly and the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.
