A party to praise

At a time when students are buckling down for finals and
graduation, there is always a need for a diversion. For the past
four years, the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB) has organized
the All Campus Party, an event that has grown to become the
nation’s largest alcohol-free celebration on a college campus. We
praise the organization of this event for it’s offering of
alternatives to drinking and its devotion to developing campus
unity.

Unlike Halloween, the All Campus Party offers safe entertainment
for this campus community and a comfortable setting for those who
refrain from using alcohol. ACP is also a much finer organized
operation than that notorious evening of costume-clad mayhem in
late October/early November.

Moreover, while students doubtlessly look ahead to the
festivities of this weekend’s upcoming Mifflin Street Block Party,
we must note that ACP is a far more safe, socially-oriented event,
and one of little burden on the wallets of students.

Such commitment to safe, free activity from WASB is in large
part dependent on the increased involvement of sponsoring from
university institutions. The event would not play out on such a
large scale if it were not for sponsors who contribute thousands of
dollars to benefit the party. Such commitment from these various
sponsors is indicative of ACP’s commitment to foster campus
unity.

Stacy Hicklin did not participate in the crafting of this
editorial because of her involvement in the planning of All Campus
Party.
