Are you kidding me?

The Asian Pacific American Council isn’t just asking SSFC for an
unreasonable budget, it is asking for over a quarter-million
dollars ? a 42 percent increase over last year’s budget. But, of
course, this money is going to provide you, the average student,
with a wonderful service, right? Try again, unless of course you
are one of the 27 students APAC chooses to employ.

That was not a typo. A student organization wants 27 student
staffers, including three full-time summer employees and at least
six other summer employees. So what will these 27 students cost the
rest of us if SSFC does not make drastic cuts in the APAC budget? A
whopping $160,337. This leaves $93,900 in their budget for
“services.”

Of course, in their budget request, APAC has decided it needs to
spend $5,000 of your student taxes on office supplies and
furniture. Apparently the $9,436.77 spent or available to be spent
over the past two years wasn’t nearly enough. Who is their interior
decorator?

APAC is requesting $83,000 combined for printing and
programming. While this amount seems excessive, we do applaud APAC
for at least making some effort to be more service-oriented rather
than lobby-oriented.

We urge SSFC to look closely at this budget as well as other
budgets that are and will be coming before them this month. Thus
far, SSFC has been a rubber stamp. We hope this will not
continue.
