Apparently, the issue of sexual abuse is so funny that it belongs on the comics page. To quote Tom Hanks in the movie Big, “I don’t get it.” I don’t understand the joke. Maybe my sense of humor is underdeveloped. What about the Adam’s Rust cartoon that appeared Friday, 4-19-2002, is supposed to be funny? Is it the suffering that those who have been sexually abused by some Catholic priests have had to endure? Is it the guilt and shame that these men must now feel? Or maybe I am supposed to read the comic and feel good about myself because I’ve never done anything as wrong as what those priests did. Is that it? I don’t know, it doesn’t seem to be working. If anyone can explain the joke to me, I would greatly appreciate it, because it just doesn’t seem like a very funny topic or one that is appropriate for the comics page.
