Me,
I’m the smart ass. I don’t feel it necessary to be totally serious when
covering issues. In my duel role as Opinion content editor and columnist, I
often find it useful to inject some levity into the daily routine. My
personality does not allow me to have a dour disposition when explaining my
thoughts.

My
job as content editor is to organize the ideas generated inside and outside of
the paper into a (hopefully) coherent and cogent section. As a columnist, I
think it is my role to use my life experiences and my beliefs as tools to build
a personal construct of society.

Certainly
there will be those who disagree in part or in whole with my world view; that is
to be expected. My ultimate goal is not to change hearts and minds, but to
hopefully expose you to a different perspective. I strongly believe in the power
of the pen; each week I have the opportunity to let you know how I feel on any
number of issues and possibly affect the campus climate.

Time
and again I will attempt to challenge your ideals and beliefs. I ask the same of
you. Through guest columns, letters to the editor and online feedback, you too
are afforded the chance to make your feelings known.

You’ll
read a lot about the First Amendment and freedom of speech on this page in the
coming months. As an editorial board member I will pay more than lip service to
these principles. You can count on me to espouse my own beliefs at every
occasion — I hope you do the same.
