Madison police arrested 22-year-old Bo Penman Sunday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital after he allegedly threatened to kill hospital security staff with a shotgun.
Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said Penman came to St. Mary’s early Sunday morning with a family member but was asked to leave the facility around 1:00 a.m. after causing a disturbance.
“He was causing a disturbance inside by yelling and swearing, so security staff escorted him outside,” DeSpain said. “He continued to make disturbance and was threatening them and police were called and he was cited with municipal tickets at that point and driven home.”
Penman was reportedly upset with hospital staff because the family member he came into the hospital with was not being released, DeSpain said.
DeSpain said Penman came back to the hospital a second time and told security staff he was going to go home and come back with a shotgun. An officer on the case decided to stay near the hospital to patrol the area and noticed Penman was in a nearby vehicle, he said.
When the officer searched the suspect, shotgun shells were found in his pockets. Police also found a shotgun in the trunk of Penman’s car, DeSpain said.
The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and two counts of trespassing at a medical facility, the police report said.
