A branch of University of Wisconsin’s student government passed a budget of $42,321.85 for the Student Judiciary in a meeting Monday.
The Student Services Finance Committee passed the Student Judiciary’s proposed 2015-16 budget, proposed by Chief Justice Adam Wald, with a vote of 7-0-3.
The public defender and solicitor general were previously paid a monthly stipend. In the 2015-16 budget, they will be paid $11 an hour. The budget includes an expense of $1,500 for this hourly wage. There is also a $500 expense for salary increases.
Also during the meeting, the Child Care Tuition Assistance Program presented its proposed 2015-16 budget of $1,058,643. The proposed budget is a 2 percent decrease from the 2014-15 budget of $1,075,100.
CCTAP is a student support system that helps student parents afford high quality childcare while they earn their degree and offers classes to educate student parents.
This decrease is largely because the 2014-15 budget had a one time technology expense of $25,000 to establish a computer database, which has been zeroed out in the proposed 2015-16 budget.
The salaries and fringe expenses have a proposed raise from $103,600 to $105,843 and the total supplies and expenses have a proposed decrease from $971,500 to $952,800.
Because of the recent scrutiny on segregated fees, CCTAP is not asking for an increase in its budget, Lynn Edlefson of the Office of Childcare and Family Resources said.
SSFC Rep. Erin Harper asked if the decreased budget would mean more waitlisted people for CCTAP funds.
Eight people were put on a waitlist last semester to receive funds for childcare, Edlefson said. She said increasing the budget would reduce the number of people waitlisted.
WSUM Student Radio presented its proposed 2015-16 budget of $348,937.41 at the meeting. The proposed budget is a 2.65 percent increase from the 2014-15 budget of $339,711.72. The group said it is requesting the increase for a raise for the program director and web director.
SSFC will decide on CCTAP and WSUM’s budgets Thursday.
