AP: Voters may have illegally cast ballots in ’08

(AP) – Prosecutors in Minnesota and Wisconsin are investigating dozens of cases in which voters may have illegally cast ballots in both states in the 2008 presidential election.

At least two people have been charged so far.

According to documents reviewed by The Associated Press, the potential cases of double voting were uncovered by the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board under a rare agreement with the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office to compare the states’ election data.

The states found 35 cases in which voters listed an identical name and date of birth and were recorded as voting on both sides of the border. Those cases have been sent to local prosecutors for further investigation.

Local officials in both states have been asked or ordered not to destroy the election records.
