A University of
Wisconsin student was rushed to a local hospital Saturday night after falling
from the eighth story of an apartment building.

The 21-year-old
sustained non-life threatening injuries from the fall off the balcony of one of
the La Ciel apartments at 515 University Ave. The incident occurred at
approximately 10:43 p.m., according to Madison Police Department release.

"I believe he
suffered a broken leg and a couple other broken bones," said MPD Sgt. John Rife.

Rife said the
police department has not yet determined exactly how he fell.

"It doesn't look
like it's suspicious as far as foul play or anything," Rife said. "I believe he
landed on a secondary roof above the pavement."

Both Madison
police and fire rescue responded at the scene Saturday night after receiving a
call about an injured person. Upon arrival, the officers found the student
lying on the ground.

The release
states the student is a Minnesota resident and is currently recovering in the
UW Hospital.

Dean of Students
Lori Berquam said she was informed of the incident early Sunday morning and
will stay in touch with the student and his family.

"We will make
contact with the student once the family is involved," Berquam said. "Then
depending on his hospital stay, we'll look at ways we can assist the person."

The La Ciel
Apartment management did not return calls for comment as of press time.
