ABC Sports employee dies

The 48-year-old Florida man who fell while working on camera installation for ABC Sports Media at the University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall died Sunday morning as a result of head injuries, police said Monday.

On the evening of Friday, Nov. 21, Richard Umansky, a member of ABC Sports Media from Darien, Fla., was working on TV camera installation to be used to cover Saturday’s matchup between the UW Badgers and University of Iowa Hawkeyes. At approximately 9 p.m., he fell from the platform he was working on to the cement floor of a stadium entry ramp, about eight feet below.

After sustaining a head injury, Umansky was found unconscious on the floor of the ramp by a UW staff member, who then called 911. UW Police and Madison Fire Rescue responded and drove Umansky to UW Hospital.
