Map library closed

The University of Wisconsin Robinson Map Library will return to its regular open hours Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The library cut its hours of operation after librarian Mary Galneder retired in September after 38 years of dedicated service. Galneder’s absence forced the library to temporarily close its doors to students this summer; it later reopened with shortened hours once the semester started.

The process of hiring a new librarian is currently underway. Once a new librarian is found, the library can resume its normal hours. Library staff members expect the job vacancy will be filled sometime in November.

Mike Fleenor, a library staff member, said this inconvenience “hasn’t affected too many students” and has had a “minimal impact so far.” Teacher’s assistants and graduate students have also greatly helped to keep the library available to students by volunteering their time.

The library’s hours for Oct. 7 through Dec. 20 will be Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 12 to 4 p.m. Hours are subject to change in October.

Any questions regarding open hours can be answered by calling the Robinson Map Library’s phone number, 262-1471, or by going to their website, [email protected].
