INDIANAPOLIS — All week leading up to the University of Wisconsin football team’s meeting with Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game, questions swirled around UW’s quarterback situation.

Redshirt freshman Alex Hornibrook, who had started the Badgers’ last nine games, suffered a concussion against Minnesota in the regular season finale last Saturday. Hornibrook had been listed as questionable for the entirety of the week, until Saturday morning when it was revealed he would be available.

Hours before kickoff, however, Chryst told Big Ten Network’s Mike Hall that fifth-year senior Bart Houston, who had seen action in UW’s last six games since being replaced Sept. 17 against Georgia State, would start. Houston played the entire game, going 16-for-21 with no touchdowns and no interceptions in Wisconsin’s 38-31 loss.

“I thought Bart did some good things,” Chryst said after the game.

Although his numbers appeared solid, Houston was still upset with the outcome.

“It’s very difficult,” Houston said. “I feel sad, mad, at myself. I feel like there’s a couple of plays I could have done better on. Penn State, they’re a good team, there’s a reason why they’re here.”

Chryst refused to comment after the game on Hornibrook’s official status, simply saying “Bart played.”

Houston told reporters Hornibrook was healthy, but found out in the days leading up to the game he’d be the starter.
