It’s a Tuesday night. You told yourself you’d save your allocated “skips” in the syllabus to go home early for Thanksgiving, but you didn’t. You’re still going home early.
Following your journey home, you greet your mother, ecstatic to see you, at the door. She cries out your name like you’ve just returned from war, not a college campus. You hug her, allowing for a sappy moment, then head inside. You’ve got a big day ahead of you — here’s what you’ll do:
Walk into your room that your dad non-consensually turned into a home gym. Stub your toe on the Peloton right when you walk in. Sigh and accept it.
Eat. Your mom will offer you 15 different snacks within the first three minutes. You’ll accept at least two.
Assume your mom will do your laundry then become extremely disappointed when she doesn’t. You’ve been doing your laundry by yourself for months — she can’t do it this time?
Start a fight with your sister. It’s been a while — you’re bored!
Cry over the fact that your 10-year-old brother is now taller than you. (Maybe this one is just me)
Take a nap anywhere. Your parents’ bed? Sounds comfy to me. The living room floor? Even better.
Complain that there’s no good food in the house. Eat chocolate chips and peanut butter and contemplate Door-dashing something better.
Realize you only brought two shirts. Rummage through your childhood closet and throw on your middle school track sweatshirt. Get stuck in it because it’s five sizes too small. Don’t get rid of it — stuff it back into your closet.
Tell your mom you’ll go to the bank with her in hopes of convincing her to buy you Starbucks on the way home. Self-explanatory — works every time.
Drive around aimlessly and think of everything that’s ever happened to you. You have reverted back to your teenage self.
Listen to “’tis the damn season” by Taylor Swift. This is required.
Enjoy the water pressure of your home shower. Soak it in, this won’t last long.
Sleep until 1 p.m. the next day. Roll your eyes when you come out of your room and your dad says, “Oh! She’s alive!”
And just like that, the break is over. Until next Thanksgiving.
