Mad City Frites has quite the sense of humor, it appears. Acknowledging their chief opponent in a recent struggle to acquire a liquor license, the State Street vendor has released a new beer named “Paul” after Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.
Their campaign for a liquor license met heavy resistance from Soglin, whose efforts to prevent the motion were ultimately overruled in a recent city council decision after a 19-1 vote.

Mad City Frites serves a rotation of craft beers from breweries across the country, each of them given a human name and description.
The brew masquerading as Paul is CynicAle from Minneapolis’ Surly Brewing Company, described by Mad City Frites as “bitter, reminds you of the good ol’ times.”

Mad City Frites owner Taylor Beebe has had her new beer menu out for two weeks, saying her latest addition is “me being as cheeky as I think I can be,” as she told Wisconsin State Journal.
For those interested in sampling Paul’s “dry, ‘tingly’ finish,” Mad City Frites is the place to go.
