White, male America has a long history of not appreciating the contributions, cultural or otherwise, that black women have made to our society.
The latest generation, however, of black, female artists have been impossible to ignore, both in terms of the quality of their projects but also in the ways in which they’ve presented them.
These artists range all over the musical spectrum, some even individually. Many people may be most familiar with Beyonce, Rihanna or Solange Knowles, due to her prolific latest album, but 2016 has quietly, and strongly been a year for the music of black women to prosper.
This week’s Hitlist is an attempt to put some long overdue, respect on the names of these artists.
