News reporters

As the backbone of the paper, the news section contains some of the most exciting writing gigs at the Herald, giving student journalists unmatched access to state government and the inner-workings of the city and campus communities. Our city beat covers events like The Mifflin Street Block Party and Freakfest as well as city meetings and area crime. The campus beat covers student government, events on campus and higher education issues, while the state beat covers things like the upcoming election and happenings down at the Capitol. For more information on how to get involved, email Katie Caron ([email protected]).

Interested in writing in-depth and feature pieces on whatever is on your mind? Join Editor-at-large Pam Selman in exploring topics from sexual assault on campus to writing about a trip to the resident State Street psychic. Writing for the EAL is all about producing out of the box pieces while also looking at hard-hitting stories. Writers can report as often or as infrequently as they choose, and pieces are worked on over a longer period of time. Questions? Want to take the dive? Contact Pam Selman: [email protected]

Sports reporters and writers

Ready to be more than just a Badgers fan? Then write for the sports section, where you’ll have the opportunity to profile Wisconsin athletes, write game recaps and break down upcoming matchups. No previous experience is needed, and if you’re interested email sports editor Ian McCue at [email protected].

We welcome writers with any arts interests and have opportunities to cover all that Madison has to offer.
