Glee Recap “The Sue Sylvester Shuffle”

It was a great night not only to be a Packer fan, but a Gleek as
well. Following the Packer’s Super Bowl win, Glee returned from their winter
break to treat audiences across the country to an action-packed episode.

The show opened with the cheerleaders dancing to Katy Perry’s
“California Gurls,” in a well-done spectacle. Hula-hoops were on fire, bikers
were jumping off ramps, and blue hair was flying everywhere. However, this was
not enough for Sue Sylvester who insists that to take nationals, she needs to
shoot Brittany (Heather Morris) out of a cannon, which does not settle well
with school administrators.

When limits are placed on Sue with her upcoming cheerleader
performance for regionals, out of her frustration, she has the regionals moved
to be the same night as the upcoming football championship. Consequently, the
football program is left without cheerleaders or a halftime show.

The glee club, specifically the football players, continue to
receive harassment from their fellow football players. Football coach Shannon
Beiste, (Dot-Marie Jones) and Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) decide to
combine both of their programs to perform during the halftime of upcoming
football championship game as a result of having no cheerleaders.

Of course the football players are hesitant, even after Noah
Puckerman (Mark Salling) and Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) perform a charming
version of Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.” However, a push is made to create
peace between clubs.

Once the football players are more comfortable performing, the
boys all performed a creepy performance of “She’s Not There” by the Zombies.
When hockey players, or “puck heads” catch sight of all the football players
singing and dancing, the football team is hit with slushies, causing the
already hesitant football players to quit. Consequently, they are all thrown
off the football team by Coach Beiste, who insists they have to perform at
halftime in order to play in the game.

When students across the school refuse to join the football team,
the girls of glee, Rachel, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), Mercedes (Amber Riley), and
Lauren (Ashley Fink), decide to join the team, just so there are enough numbers
to play.

Meanwhile, cheerleaders Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron), Santana
Lopez (Naya Rivera), and Brittany, have to make a decision between cheerleading
and glee club. After much convincing, they join the glee club for their half
time performance, as do all the football players who had previously quit. They
all performed a mash up of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s
“Heads Will Roll.” It was quite a spectacle seeing everyone in their costumes
and zombie make-up dancing on the football field and for the most part, very well
done.

Let’s not forget Kurt (Chris Colfer) and the rest of Warblers who
sing Destiny Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills,” very well, in preparation for the
Regionals. The show also had its romantic drama, including a kiss between Finn
Hudson (Cory Monteith) and Quinn at the end of the episode.

As a result of joining the glee club for the halftime
performance, Quinn, Santana, and Brittany are off the cheerleading team, which
is not too much of a disappointment, after Sue’s performance without her stars
causes them to lose at regionals.

It was definitely a worthwhile episode to follow the Super Bowl,
and gleeks don’t have to wait long for another episode, when Glee returns in
two days for a special Valentine’s Day episode.
