Transfer to return to women’s basketball team

Junior transfer student Avyanna Young has decided to return to the Wisconsin women’s basketball program to after she temporarily left the team.

Young announced that she would leave the program on October 22nd for personal reasons, but a change of heart led her back to Madison and is practicing with the team again.

“I missed the team and playing basketball,” Young said. “I knew returning was the right decision, to stay here and be with the people who really care about me.”

The 6-1 forward played her first two seasons of collegiate ball at UW-Milwaukee, where she averaged 13.3 points per game and over 3o minutes per game last season. The Milwaukee native and Rufus King graduate led the Panthers with 9.9 rebounds per outing.

“I think she made a hasty decision and one she didn’t think through fully,” head coach Bobbie Kelsey said in the statement. “We welcomed her back with open arms and love, and we want her to do well.  I think she realized how much she can contribute to our program, not just basketball wise, and what she was giving up.”

Young will still have to sit out the 2014-2015 season in accordance with the NCAA’s transfer rules.
