Soccer falls to PSU in Big Ten opener

The Wisconsin men’s soccer team was outshot 14-3 as 19th-ranked Penn State handed the adgers a 2-0 loss today at Jeffrey Field in State College.

UW senior goalkeeper Moriba Atiba Baker tallied eight saves as Wisconsin lost its Big Ten opener and fell to 6-4-1 overall.

Freshman forward Chad Severs tallied the game-winning goal for the Nittany Lions (7-2, 3-1 Big Ten), finding the Badger net at the 5:34 mark of the first half off a double assist from seniors Derek Potteiger and Ricardo Villar. Senior defenseman Chris Stout scored in the 33rd minute to give PSU some insurance. Severs and senior midfielder Greg Oldfield were credited with an assist.

Penn State goalkeeper Eric Earnhardt made no saves in the shutout.

Wisconsin returns home this week to host sixth-ranked Indiana for a 7:30 p.m. contest Friday, Oct. 12.
