Chicago, IL ? Wendell Bryant, a senior captain and defensive tackle for the Badger football team, was named Big Ten Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Wednesday at the Big Ten Football Media Day.

Bryant, who attended the two-day event with junior quarterback Brooks Bollinger and head coach Barry Alvarez, is a two-time, first-team all-Big Ten selection. He led the Badgers with six sacks last season and was a finalist for the 2000 Lombardi Award.

Bryant, Bollinger and the rest of the Wisconsin veterans report to the O?Connor Center on Friday to begin preparations for the August 25 opener in Madison against Virginia.
