Former Badgers to compete in world championships

Suzy Favor Hamilton and Kathy Butler, two former members of the University of Wisconsin women?s track and cross country team, will be competing in the 8th IAAF World Track & Field Championships. The championships begin Friday and run through Aug. 12 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Favor Hamilton, a nine-time NCAA champion at Wisconsin, and Sarah Schwald, a former NCAA champion from Arkansas who trains under UW coach Peter Tegen, will be competing in the 1500 meters for the United States. Favor Hamilton is currently ranked fifth in the world in the 1500 meters, according to the July 23rd rankings of the IAAF. Schwald is tied for 18th in the world rankings.

Butler, a five-time NCAA champion for the Badgers, will be competing in the 5000 meters for Great Britain.
