In response to “Well-managed hospitals entitled to profits, praise” by Jim Allard:

“Mr. Allard clearly doesn’t get it. We’re talking about non-profit hospitals entitled to a tax-free existence. If a hospital would like to make a profit and pay taxes, fine, ignore the needy. If a hospital chooses to be a non-profit charity and therefore tax-exempt, then I dunno, maybe they need to actually behave charitably. All the arguments about morals are beside the point. Stick to biology, Jim.”

In response to “Ed Board misses bus on fare hike” by Jack Craver:

‘”Otherwise, perhaps the next editorial, in the name of fiscal discipline, will call for increasing college tuition.’ Uh, Jack, there are quite a few people who do support a tuition increase. Next time when you want to try point out an absurd argument the Herald would never run a column on in the Op-ed section try something like legalizing drunken driving. O, wait…”

“Based on what I’ve found, the total tax rate in France comes to 48.3%. In the US it is only 30%. You pay for it either way.

Also, when the budget is 5 BILLION in the hole, just for the state of Wisconsin, that isn’t the time too look at major spending projects unless they are going to create a boat load of jobs. It might be a wee bit wiser to figure out how to pay for all the crap we’ve already committed to first.

This is up there with the complaints from Europe that the US (government) doesn’t donate enough money to natural disasters around the world. Part they forget is that their government is simply choosing the donations with their tax money. The US people make more donations, thus making us the largest charity givers in the world…”
