Most students voting in today’s primaries will only see the school board race on their ballots — the only student-district race with more than two candidates is the one for the city of Madison’s District 5.
While we will save our endorsements for the election on April 2, we do know what we want our representatives to value — students. And lately, the City Council has been doing a poor job of that. The best (or worst) example is the vote two weeks ago to halt progress on the State Street Design Project. The State Street Design Project promises to boost the economy of State Street, city revenue, and dramatically improve the environment for everyone in the city’s center — especially students.
Tonight the council meets again; we hope they will renew their commitment to the State Street project and to students. Candidates in today’s primaries should do the same, or else voters should hold them responsible.
