The University of Wisconsin Police Department arrested a “well-known area drug dealer” on Monday who was already on federal probation.
Zachary Czerkas, a 23-year-old man from Madison, was arrested for delivering marijuana and maintaining a drug trafficking dwelling, according to a UWPD statement.
UWPD has been investigating this case for nearly two months along with the Dane County Narcotics Task Force, UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott said.
“Drug cases can become complex,” Lovicott said. “We have to track individual’s whereabouts and connect the dots. We decided to move on this yesterday and we were successful. We made an arrest.”
UWPD executed a search warrant a few minutes south of campus, and Czerkas was arrested on site without incident, the statement said.
Czerkas will have an initial appearance before a judge in the coming days, Lovicott said.
Czerkas is on federal probation violation for manufacturing marijuana, according to the statement. He had been convicted of growing more than 600 marijuana plants inside a house after police arrested him in early 2010, the statement said.
