University of Wisconsin Police Department officers arrived at a UW residence hall Sunday and arrested a student after receiving reports of this individual recording others in a restroom, according to an incident report.

Multiple victims reported to UW Housing fellows incidents of an individual dropping a phone underneath a bathroom stall divider, with the camera pointing up toward the victim using the restroom, according to the incident report. The perpetuator would then retrieve the phone after a few seconds.

One victim, who experienced two incidents of a phone being dropped underneath his bathroom stall earlier that day, grabbed the phone after a third incident and observed the phone actively recording him, according to the report. The victim reported seeing other similar recordings on the phone.

UW Housing fellows contacted UWPD about the reports, who arrested a resident of the UW residence hall in which the reports originated. The arrested student was booked into the Dane County Jail on three counts of disorderly conduct and three counts of capturing an image depicting nudity without consent, according to the report.

“We believe there may be additional victims,” UWPD director of communications Marc Lovicott said in an email statement.

UWPD stated the incident is still under investigation and encouraged anyone who believes that they may be a victim to contact UWPD.
