There has been a confirmed case of measles among a University of Wisconsin student, according to an email from University Health Services. The student lives in an off-campus apartment and is in recovery, according to the email.

Others on campus may have been exposed to the virus, and the email lists multiple exposure locations, including the Qdoba on Park Street, the Brogden Psychology building, the Waisman Center, the Genetics building and Union South. 

According to the email, individuals who have been vaccinated for MMR do not need to be quarantined, even if they believe they have been exposed. Those without the vaccination who have been exposed or believe they have been are required to quarantine for 21 days past the date of exposure, as the virus is highly contagious, according to the email.

UW is working closely with Public Health Madison & Dane County, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, for further investigation of the case. 

Symptoms of measles include a runny nose, high fever, cough, and red, watery eyes, according to the email. The email advises individuals who are developing symptoms to call clinics, hospitals or healthcare providers before going to their locations. If a student experiences symptoms, they should contact UHS immediately, according to the email.
