A group of University of Wisconsin students expressed their
disapproval yesterday over a new policy that would regulate how student-segregated
funds are distributed on campus.

Issues arose earlier this year when the UW System Board of
Regents created a committee this summer to review segregated fee policies.

The Students Rights Campaign organized the demonstration "to
show the community that students are watching, and students care about how this
committee is restricting or not restricting our ability to control our seg
fees," SRC member Rachel Butler said.

Students gathered on Library Mall Wednesday and marched to
the Segregated Fee System Committee that took place yesterday at the UW System
Administration Offices.

At the meeting, Butler said student representatives on the
committee recommend changes to an amended policy to make it more "student
friendly."

Butler said each recommendation was voted down by the
committee, which consisted of four student and five administrative
representatives.

A draft of the new segregated fee policy will be sent to UW
System campuses this week, and the committee will meet again Nov. 27 to
finalize the policy.

Until then, Butler said her organization "will be raising
some thunder across the state."

UW spokesperson David Giroux said the UW System Board of
Regents will hear an update on the segregated fee policy changes at Friday’s
meeting.
