The Madison Police Department's West Community Police Team arrested a man Wednesday featured on Madison's Most Wanted list for several felony charges.

Officers arrested Albert Amos, a 32-year-old Madison resident, on the 3200 block of Prairie Road on the west side of the city.

According to a release from MPD Public Information Officer Mike Hanson, the team waited at the residence to arrest Amos and identified the suspect using a police dog. Amos was chased into the house, where the MPD confiscated drugs, cash and sales equipment.

MPD Sgt. Karen Krahn told The Badger Herald it does not take a certain number of crimes for a suspect to make Madison's Most Wanted, but she said a few large offenses is enough to be on the list.

"There's no set specific crimes or numbers of crimes for the list — it's kind of subjective," Krahn said. "But usually [a suspect] has an extensive number of crimes or are wanted for a fewer number of more severe crimes."

Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, said the Madison's Most Wanted list is determined by Crime Stoppers. Though the MPD, Dane County Police and the University of Wisconsin Police Department all contribute resources to the Crime Stoppers unit, Verveer said the MPD plays the largest role in the list.

"The Madison Police are absolutely more involved (with Madison's Most Wanted) than other police agencies because we provide staff for the organization," Verveer said. "But Madison Area Crime Stoppers are the ones that provide cash rewards for those citizens who offer concrete tips that lead to arrests."

Though the MPD could not disclose whether or not private tips led to Amos' arrest, Krahn said a variety of factors go into the capturing of criminals on Madison's Most Wanted.
