Two of the suspects involved in a recent break-in at Eagle Heights appeared in a Dane County courtroom Tuesday and were released from jail on bail. The two suspects are not allowed on University of Wisconsin property until their next court appearance on Nov. 6.
Karl R. Thomas, 20, Thomas Charles Vanzandt, 21, and a third suspect who will appear in court later this week, have been tentatively charged with attempted burglary while armed, disorderly conduct while armed, and carrying a concealed weapon.
UW Police arrested the three men early Sunday morning for attempting to break into the room of a University Apartments resident while wearing black outfits with WWII German Swastika flags on the arms.
The resident they were looking for, however, is not a minority, so the break-in is not being classified as a hate crime.
According to police reports, the subjects fled prior to police arrival, but police stopped them in a car a short distance away and found two additional suspects in the car.
A search subsequent to the arrest of the five individuals found one subject armed with a straight razor. A large knife and brass knuckles were also found in the car.
