Badger fans were finally able to enjoy a blowout win on Saturday, but?unfortunately you can’t learn too much about a team after they beat up on a squad from the subdivision. UW should have destroyed Wofford and they did just that, despite the ridiculous amount of fumbles (there has already been plenty written about that). We will know a lot more about this team after the Michigan State game, but for now, let’s look at what we learned about the rest of the college football world.??
1. It’s true, Miami is back?
I was skeptical at first, but I have to admit it, Miami looks the like the Miami of old. Quarterback Jacory Harris has been sensational and he has shown some real pocket?presence. To be honest, I didn’t think Harris had a future at “the U”, but he is making plays on a consistent basis and that is leading to wins over some tough opponents. Miami always has a solid defense that is loaded with jaw-dropping speed, and now it looks like they have found a QB that can take them back to the BCS.
2. USC has a really bad memory?
The University of Southern California has just as much talent as any team in the country, but apparently all that talent stayed in sunny California this past Saturday. Once again, for the fourth year in a row, the Trojans lost to a pathetic Pac 10 team. This time it was Washington, a team that went winless last season. We have come to expect USC to lose a game like this every year, but every time it happens, USC head coach Pete Carroll looks to be in absolute disbelief. Coach, instead of continually losing like this you should remember these poor performances and try to learn from them.
3. Tennessee is headed in the right direction
Coach Lane Kiffin couldn’t live up to his prediction and beat Florida, but he came pretty close. ?Tennessee played well in Gainesville and they went toe-to-toe with the defending national champs. True freshman running back Bryce Brown looks like a stud and this team is only going to get better.?
4. Texas Tech has a defense
The Red Raiders were able to keep the Longhorns in check and came very close to getting a huge road-win. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was able to lead his team to a win, but Texas Tech did all they could on defense to limit McCoy and pull off the upset. If only the Red Raiders played like that on defense last season.?
5. Boise State has locked up a BCS berth
After winning the last tough game on their schedule, the Broncos are staring at an undefeated season. This is an impressive football team that is incredibly explosive. Trust me, I’m not the only one who feels this way. Check out Jordan Schelling’s latest column for all the details.?
