The [Wisconsin State Journal](http://www.madison.com/wsj/mad/breaking_news/276954) is reporting that junior back up free safety Kim Royston has decided to leave the Wisconsin football team and transfer to another school.

Royston was apparently unhappy with his backup role on in the Badger secondary. Junior Chris Maragos, a converted wide receiver transfer from Western Michigan, filled Royston’s vacancy Thursday in practice.

Senior defensive tackle Mike Newkirk will miss 6-8 weeks–the remainder of spring practices–as he is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery Friday.
